Uncle Augustine and the Mystery of the Bright Blackberries | A Children’s Story to Dream About

Today, I want to tell you the story my Uncle Agustin taught us, about the mystery of the glowing blackberries.

During a quiet full moon night, Grandma’s orchard lit up with an unexpected glow. The blackberries on the old blackberry tree, Uncle Agustin’s favorite, began to shine like little stars caught between the branches. The children, intrigued by the mysterious glow, approached the tree as their eyes filled with wonder.

«Uncle Agustin, come see this!» exclaimed Ana, the youngest of the grandchildren.

The old farmer, with his inseparable straight-brimmed hat and a sprig of blackberries in his mouth, arrived at the foot of the tree with a nostalgic smile. He sat on his wooden bench under the glowing branches and watched the spectacle for a moment before beginning to speak.

—This is a special night— he said as the children sat around him.— This tree holds a very old secret that is only revealed when the full moon illuminates it completely. The glowing blackberries are not simple fruits, they are magical.

—What do these blackberries do, Uncle Augustine?— asked Santiago, the most curious of the group.

Uncle Augustine sat down on his bench and answered:

—It is said that whoever eats one of these blackberries can see their way more clearly when they are lost, no matter if it is a path in the forest or in their heart. But there is one condition: the blackberry must be eaten with a pure and sincere desire.

The children listened attentively, amazed by the idea. Angela, the oldest, dared to ask:

—Have you eaten one, Uncle Augustine?

—Once, when I was young and I didn’t know what to do with my life— she answered with a melancholic smile. —The blackberry showed me a path that I would never have imagined. He took me to this orchard, to take care of this tree, and to find happiness in the simple things.

The children’s curiosity was mixed with doubt. Ana asked,

«Can we have one?»

«Of course,» the uncle replied. «But remember, you must have a sincere and pure wish in your hearts. This is not a gift for greed or ambition, but a guide for those who really need it.»

One by one, the children took a glowing blackberry and held it in their hands, closing their eyes as they made their wishes. As they bit into them, a feeling of calm enveloped them. Although none of them said out loud what they had asked for, the smiles on their faces betrayed that they had found something special.

The magic of the blackberries illuminated not only the night, but also the hearts of the children. When they finally returned home, the branches of the tree stopped shining, but the story of that night was engraved in them forever. Uncle Augustine sat down on his bench, the sprig of blackberries still in his mouth, looking at the windmill that turned gently under the moonlight.

“This is the true gift of life,” he murmured before closing his eyes. And so, under the starry sky, the secret of the blackberry tree continued to be a guide for the pure hearts that sought it.
