The Talking Clock Adventure – Time Travel, Adventure Stories, and Magic

There is a story that I have remembered from the tales that my old Uncle Agustin told us when we were children. Today I am telling it to you. I hope you like it.

In a small house at the end of a quiet alley, young Martin was spending the holidays with his grandmother. One afternoon, while exploring the attic, he found an old wall clock covered in dust. Its design was magnificent, with intricate engravings of flowers and animals. Without thinking, he approached it and when he touched it, the clock came to life.

“Hello, little adventurer!” said the clock in a deep, resonant voice. “I am Cronos, the guardian of time. I have been waiting for someone like you.”

Martin, surprised but excited, could not believe what he heard. The clock explained to him that each hour contained a tale from times past and that there was a mission that only he could accomplish.

Cronos revealed to him that there were three treasures hidden in time, and that only with his help could they find them. The first was related to an ancient map that led to a valuable object of family history. But there was a problem: the map was divided into three parts, and each was located in a different time.

To begin, Cronos proposed a riddle.

“In the first hour, you will find the clue in the place where gold shines and heroes fight. What time is it?”

After thinking for a moment, Martin exclaimed:

“One o’clock! It is the hour of battle.”

Suddenly, the clock emitted a flash of light, and Martin felt himself being transported. When he opened his eyes, he found himself on a battlefield from medieval times. Knights fought bravely while the sun shone brightly. Martin felt small among the great warriors, but Cronos whispered to him:

“Do not be afraid, look for the castle tower. There you will find the first part of the map.”

With determination, Martin headed towards the castle. On his way, he came across an old man who seemed to have knowledge of the place. The old man told him about a treasure hidden in the tower, guarded by a dragon. With ingenuity, Martin came up with a plan to distract the dragon and was able to enter the tower. There, he found the first part of the map.

With the first part in hand, Cronos took him back to Grandma’s house. Together, they studied the map and discovered that the next clue was in ancient Egypt. This time, the riddle was more complicated.

—In the second hour, look for the land of the pharaohs, where dreams are eternal. What time is it?

Martin, excited by the new challenge, thought of the pyramids and said:

—It’s two o’clock!

And again, he was transported, this time to a burning desert. Here, among the dunes, he had to solve sphinx riddles and decipher hieroglyphics to obtain the second part of the map.

With the two parts of the map, Martin and Cronos were getting closer to discovering the family treasure. The last clue led them to a time of pirates, where the final riddle was.

“In the third hour, follow the path of gold and betrayal, where the sea holds the secrets. What time is it?”

“It’s three o’clock!” answered Martin, full of courage.

He found himself on a pirate ship, surrounded by waving flags and the sound of the ocean. Together with Cronos, he had to face the pirates and solve the last riddle to find the treasure: a box full of jewels and objects of great value, which belonged to his ancestors.

When he returned home, Martin understood that the real treasure was not the jewels, but the stories and teachings of his ancestors. Cronos smiled at him.

“You have shown that courage and intelligence can overcome any challenge. Now, every time you look at the clock, you will remember the adventures we lived together.”

Martin, excited, promised to tell these stories to future generations, keeping his family’s legacy alive. Over time, the clock became just a beautiful decorative object again, but in Martin’s heart, it would always be his friend and companion on adventures.
